Do AI detectors work?

AI detectors are worthless, according to Christopher Penn, co-founder and Chief Data Scientist at TrustInsights.ai. He tried several AI detectors (like ) using the US Declaration of Independence (written 246 years before ChatGPT launched) an most of them identified it as a AI generated text.

Below are a few tips from the Neuron newsletter if you want to sound more human in your writing (whether you’re using AI or not)?

  • Mix up your sentence lengths. Short ones. Longer, more complex ones.
  • Throw in some unexpected phrases… like comparing AI detectors to cheese certificates!
  • Add a personal touch. AI probably won’t mention that time you spilled oatmeal on your J Crew tee while writing about AI…

The goal is not to trick AI detectors—it’s to communicate effectively and authentically and make your writing more enjoyable for the reader.
